Looking to change it up
a bit this St Patty's day? Are your local St. Patty's
Day festivities not crazy enough for you? Savannah, GA
may be the place to be if you looking to celebrate your
Irish roots or just in the mood for a few days of drunken
debauchery! Sounds crazy, and most people might look at
you funny if you told them that's where you going, but
this Historic Town known for its centuries old buildings
and museums turns into utter insanity for its annual St
Patty's day festivities.
Starting a few nights before St. Patty's day people start
to arrive in town and the bars start to pack. Getting
a little crazier each night, the insanity climaxes on
the actually holiday itself and the few days after it
if it falls close to a weekend. Following a kick ass parade
on St Patty's Day, the town erupts. River Street is where
its at, some 30,000 plus people pack the street and the
party begins. It'll cost about 5 bucks to get on the street,
but its well worth it. You even have to worry about the
long lines to get into the bars because you can just buy
and drink it on the street.
Its almost like Mardi Gras meets St Patrick's day on crack.
People come from all over the world to this small town
down south to go a little crazy and celebrate the holiday.
You know it's a damn good party when bagpipers from Ireland
make the trip out to celebrate their heritage here!
Whether its green beer, a kick ass parade, bagpipers,
leprechauns, mechanical bulls, some good girl on girl
makeout sessions, tits, ass or all of the above that you're
looking this town doesn't skimp out on any of it. Bring
your mardi gras beads with you if you go though because
you don't want to miss out on the action, but you '
don't want to have to pay
an arm and a leg either. A string of $.25 plastic beads
will go a long way down there.
Savannah's in the Bible Belt people and even they have
to let loose every once in a while, and I guarantee you
this is the day they do it. Of course, if you're not looking
for this, you can always join in and picket with the small
group die-hard protestors that are convinced we are all
going to hell!
All this craziness and you may wonder how can it get any
better. After telling Gleny how much of kick ass time
I've had the last two years down there,
Gleny.com and company will
be taking the short bus for a road trip to partake in
the St Pat's insanity. That's right, Savannah is not gonna
know what hit it! The bus will be stocked with beads,
shirts, gleny punch and lots of other surprises that's
gonna make 2006 St Patricks Day crazier than anything
Savannah has ever experienced! If you can't make it out
there, stayed tuned for next months issue of MORE for
the inside scoop on the Savannah Trip!!
