Being un-motivated is no excuse.
Being un-motivated means you don't need an excuse.
I spend a good portion of my time in a total void of motivation.
Like, for example, college.
I was un-motivated throughout all 4 (5) years of college. The
feeling is unpleasant, yet comforting; kind of like Campbell's
chicken noodle soup with the slimy noodles and tiny, perfectly
square chicken bits. Un-motivated walks a fine line next to lazy,
but it is not the same thing. When motivation comes upon me I
can work. At work, my work ethic is great. When I do get going,
I am diligent and thoughtful.
Having motivation (by the way, I am writing the September article
on August 31, at 11pm) means being able to approach that "potential"
that teachers and my parents bludgeoned me with since I was a
wee lad. After a day of motivated labor I feel better and more
rested than a day of Domino's and Grand Theft Auto. (By the way,
if going down to the corner for a decent piece of pizza is too
much trouble, you really have a problem with motivation.)
Sometimes goals and deadlines help. (Sometimes, not so much. I'll
just take an incomplete and make it up next semester. Of course
if you could blow it off this semester
) (Wow, I couldn't
even finish that line.) Sometimes if I force myself to get moving
I can build up inertia and get rolling.
On some magical days I get a burst of motivation from nowhere.
I'll roll right out of bed and get started on fixing something
that has been broken so long that it ceased being considered broken.
Like the broken toilet that is now a "bathroom chair"
(we do have 3 bathrooms in my house. We do not have to poo on
the floor.) ( Someday, when I get motivated I will write about
how I hate spell check. Poo is not misspelled. Get off it prude.)
I'll shampoo the carpets, power through projects, do some early
Christmas shopping and still want to do more.
It seems to me that some people I know are always like that. I
have no idea why I can't be like that when I love being active.
Do the uber-motivated just wish they could slow down once and
a while? The ones I know don't seem to.
If this article is below my normal standard, it is because I am
not motivated. If you can't tell the difference, let me know and
I will put less effort into my work.
